I love this poem. The poem is dynamic and very rhythmic, as it should be, given the title–”Loud Music.” The varied paces and metrical phrases emphasize the different perceptions and attitudes of the speaker and his 4-year-old granddaughter, and the imagery used to refer to each one is very telling.
The poem does convey in rhythm, pace, imagery, the contrast in perceptions and worldviews. The speaker’s clear apprehension of the girl’s sensibility, concerns, and attitude is the poet’s gift.
I just wished the reading were a bit more slowly, more emphatic of certain key words and phrases.
